Travel Journal: Paris

Hey y'all! I've decided to take a few of the places out of the books and make plans to go to them. One of my major dreams is to travel the world. Places from some of my favorite books seems like a good place to start, right? Anyways, sit back and enjoy the ranting and pretty pictures!
Leave me a comment about where you want to go and if you been to PARIS. Got any travel suggestion? I'm all ears!

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Who in this lovely world does not want to go to Paris? I'm pretty sure that's the majority of my Pinterest  is all about Paris, Paris and well, more Paris. Anna and the French Kiss didn't spark my need to go to Paris, it's definitely made me want to go even more than I already did! There's just something about the French food....and French culture...and French clothes...and if I'm being honest French guys with their French accents. *le major sigh* I want to see the Eiffel tower and sit in French bakeries listening to people talk while eating a pastry and sipping on my espresso.

Although I probably have absolutely have no idea what I'm getting into with this who dreaming like an absolute manic who refuses to realize that all of this cost money *shocker*

Paris is just so romantic. Of course, me being, well, me, I romanticize everything. But come on y'all. You can't tell me that you don't want to go to Paris. What would you do if you were going to Paris? How long would you stay? And how many carry on for books and clothes and chocolate would you bring?

I'll go with my friends of course. Goodness gracious I need to start saving. Have any of y'all gone to Paris? How much are we looking at here? Should I never buy a book again? *shudders* On second thought, don't tell me. Also what should I see? Where should I stay? What should I do? Do any of y'all know an amazing travel blog to follow? TEACH ME THE WAYS!!! Wait- do you have a travel blog??? How cool!! Leave me a link, okay?

Research time!! I'll be back momentarily!

~five minuets later~

Okay, I'm back. Of course I want to see The Seine. *duh* The Opera Garnier. Also I want chocolate. Mmmm. Chocolate.

So, what have y'all got to say on this subject matter? Also, that guy and girl up there is Anna and Etienne. Ooh don't you just love his name?? Aren't they adorable!?

When I go...someday...and I will, I'll write a post of all I do!

Eversea Book Tour {Review}

Hey y'all welcome to my review stop on this amazing tour! If you haven't read this book...you seriously need to run and buy it!! Make yourself at home!

Eversea by Natasha Boyde
Goodreads / Amazon

An orphaned, small-town, southern girl, held hostage by responsibility and self-doubt.

A Hollywood A-list mega-star, on the run from his latest scandal and with everything to lose.

A chance encounter that leads to an unlikely arrangement and epic love affair that will change them both forever.

When his co-star and real-life girlfriend is caught cheating on him with her married and much older director, A-list hottie, Jack Eversea, finds himself in sleepy Butler Cove, South Carolina. Jack hopes the sultry southern heat in this tiny coastal Lowcountry town will hide him not only from the tabloids and his cheating girlfriend, but his increasingly vapid life and the people who run it. He doesn’t count on meeting Keri Ann Butler.

Keri Ann has relied on herself so long, dealing with her family’s death and the responsibilities of keeping up her family's historic mansion, that boys and certainly the meager offering of eligible boys in Butler Cove, have never figured into her equation. But fate has other plans. Suddenly face to face with the man who played the movie role of her favorite fictional character, Jack has Keri Ann yearning for everything she has previously avoided ... and Jack must decide whether this funny, sassy girl is worth changing his life for, before his mistakes catch up to him.

“How did he look at me?" I whispered, suddenly craving validation of Jack's feelings from anyone but myself and my subjective imagination.

Joey sighed, resigned. "Like you were the last chopper out of Baghdad, the last IV in the field hospital, the last funnel cake at the fair"

I’ll be honest- I want looking forward to Eversea. I wanted something different and new and I didn’t think that Eversea would be it. I can even remember me thinking ‘this better be good or I’m going to bed’ and I never think that. It wasn’t that I didn’t think I’d like it, I  thought I would but I just wasn’t in the mood for a contemporary. Or so I thought. Turns out Eversea was beyond perfect. It was beautiful and amazing and just wonderful. I had the Southern feel with the muggy weather and a small town feel where everybody knows everyone. It had a preacher who made it his mission in life to set out main girl, Keri Ann, up with his son. It had a best friend who, like every girl in America, fell in love with Jack Eversea through the tabloids.

Despite me being a Debbie Downer in the beginning, as soon as I picked up my Kindle and started the book, it was love. Love love love love love. I love it. Keri Ann has a unique voice and she’s just so ordinary. It was refreshing. I mean yes, we learn later that she’s really drop dead gorgeous, but she just doesn’t think about it or doesn’t realize it or whatever. She works as a waitress and actually likes her job because she gets to talk to everyone. She’s an artist. She is pretty much the definition of girl power.

Jack. Oh Jack. Mmmm. Jack. I mean what. *blushes furiously* He is an utter idiot and is totally whipped when it comes to Keri Ann. Its ffuurreaking adorable and I want one. I want one!!! He just got over a bad break upish sort of thingamabob. Anyway, he comes to Lowcountry to escape his paparazzi and odd girlfriend situation and runs into Keri Ann who puts him in his place. (hehehe) After being told off they sit down (well he does, she closes up the diner) and they’re done for. I really like Jack, despite what stupid things he does, he never lies. He’s used to be treated like an actor but Keri Ann treats him like the person he is.

For them its love at first sight but it doesn’t act like it. You know what I mean. I mean first its attraction and annoyance then more then love.  Y’all know I’m a romantic and I hate insta love. What’s in Eversea is anything but. It real and fierce and not at all perfect.

Boyde does an excellent job with character development and word choice and he writing style is amazing. The cliffhangers were well done and that ending will definitely get people to read the next book. Yup.

Overall, there were a few minor things that I did not like. Very minor. *applause*

Review: Shadow of the Mark by Leigh Fallon

Shadow of the Mark by Leigh Fallon
Carrier #2
July 9, 2013
HarperTeen

Summary

Their love could destroy them all.

Through the ages, Marked Ones have harnessed the powers of the four elements: Water, Fire, Earth, and Air. Much about the elements is shrouded in mystery, but one thing is certain: A relationship between two Marked Ones has the potential to cause widespread devastation.

Megan and Adam—Air and Water—are determined to defy the risks.

But the power that swirls inside Megan is growing in twisted ways. And the closer she is to Adam, the closer Megan comes to unleashing a dark force that could spell destruction for the entire Marked line.

CARRIER OF THE MARK had an epically noteworthy beginning that was brought down to a near nothing buy the lack of anything worth thinking about in the second book of the series, SHADOW OF THE MARK. Am I serious? Yup. There’s no surprise that I adored the first book in this saga. It had everything: action, romance, suspense. Where Carrier shined, Shadow was very weak. Pooh.

The book starts on the first day back hoping for a semi normal life. But of course, if our star crossed lovers had a normal boring existence, there would be no book. And so our book sets off on a whirlwind adventure of stolen kisses, long lost secrets, dead people who aren’t so dead and a startling revelation that changes everything.

Now I would love to say that this book exceeded my wildest expectation, but it didn’t. Honestly, there wasn’t much I did like about the book. Our beloved characters changed for the worse and weren’t like their usual fun, courageous selves. They were scared and took unnecessary risks. I felt like I was missing out on a lot when the scenes randomly skipped through what I thought would have been made a bigger deal out of.

The romance in the book was sketchy at best. I was confused about who as attracted to who, why some people still trusted some people and why some people were still even together.

Overall, I expected more out of one of my favorite series of 2012.  Who's read this? What did you think? Did y'all like the ending?

Interview

1.       If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
There is no way to answer that without giving you a list. I’ve been to some amazing places, and I shared one of my favorites with you in A LITTLE TOO FAR, but there are so many more I’m dying to see. I’d like to spend more time in Australia and New Zealand; travel Africa, South America, Russia, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales; see Mount Everest for myself in Nepal; cruise up the Fjords; and loll around in Paris for a month or two. Then move to Corniglia Italy.
2.      How did the idea for the A LITTLE TOO FAR series come about?
It was all Lexie. She popped into my head one day and told me she was in love with her stepbrother. The rest (including Alessandro) just sort of happened.
3.      If you were stuck on a deserted island, would you rather have with you a book, a banjo, a pineapple or a cinnamon scented candle with you? How would you use it?
Book, definitely. It’s entertainment, plus, I could use it to knock whatever fruits or nuts there might be out of the trees, and, in a pinch, it could double as a weapon…or a very small raft.
4.      What character that you’ve brought to life is most relatable to you?
Sam, my heroine in A LITTLE TOO HOT. Don’t tell my daughters, but I was a hellion in high school and college. I partied a lot, and, though I never got cut off by my parents (mostly because they never knew the extent of my shenanigans) I certainly skipped my share of college classes and got in my share of trouble. Sam is a lot like me, and she isn’t going to apologize for it. But in the end, she and I both learned that, at some point, you have to grow up.
5.      How has music impacted your writing and who’s your favorite artist/ song?
The first book I ever got published, my YA PERSONAL DEMONS, had 20 musical references written right into the manuscript. My editor made me pare that down significantly before publication, but being a newbie, I felt the music so strongly connected me to the story that I didn’t think I could write the book without including the inspiration. I often say that my playlists become books. A LITTLE TOO FAR is Lifehouse’s “All In” and “Falling In” written into book form. A LITTLE TOO MUCH is “Demons” by Imagine Dragons. A LITTLE TOO HOT is “One Thing” by Finger Eleven. Each of my main characters has a song that embodies them as well. As far as favorites, that’s sort of like the where would you like to go question. There are so many and it changes depending on my mood. At the moment, my favorite band is probably Imagine Dragons.

Book Look #7

Welcome one and all to the second Book Look stolen from Jen over at Books and Other Happy Ever Afters. Make sure y'all go see her's also...they're amazing! Everything here can be found on Polyvore.

The Book

Goodreads / Amazon
It happened like this. I was stolen from an airport. Taken from everything I knew, everything I was used to. Taken to sand and heat, dirt and danger. And he expected me to love him.

This is my story.

A letter from nowhere.

Sixteen year old Gemma is kidnapped from Bangkok airport and taken to the Australian Outback. This wild and desolate landscape becomes almost a character in the book, so vividly is it described. Ty, her captor, is no stereotype. He is young, fit and completely gorgeous. This new life in the wilderness has been years in the planning. He loves only her, wants only her. Under the hot glare of the Australian sun, cut off from the world outside, can the force of his love make Gemma love him back?

The story takes the form of a letter, written by Gemma to Ty, reflecting on those strange and disturbing months in the outback. Months when the lines between love and obsession, and love and dependency, blur until they don't exist - almost.

PODs {Book Blitz + Giveaway}

PODs
Release Date: 06/24/13
Publisher: Spencer Hill Press
Paperback/ebook
312 pages

Summary from Goodreads:

Seventeen-year-old Eva is a chosen one. Chosen to live, while others meet a swift and painful death from an incurable virus so lethal, a person is dead within days of symptoms emerging. In the POD system, a series of underground habitats built by the government, she waits with the other chosen for the deadly virus to claim those above. Separated from family and friends, it's in the PODs she meets David. And while true love might not conquer all, it's a balm for the broken soul.

After a year, scientists believe the population has died, and without living hosts, so has the virus. That's the theory, anyway. But when the PODs are opened, survivors find the surface holds a vicious secret. The virus mutated, infecting those left top-side and creating... monsters.

Eva and David hide from the infected in the abandoned PODs. Together they try to build a life--a new beginning. But the infected follow and are relentless in their attacks. Leaving Eva and David to fight for survival, and pray for a cure.

He flinched at the sound of my voice, snapping his laptop shut. Looking over his shoulder, he smiled. “You look beautiful in the morning, Eva. Your blonde hair messy and falling around your face, your eyes— not quite blue, but not quite green— sparkling in the morning sun… or the simulation of the sun,” he said with a crooked grin.
“Stop joking around. What were you just looking at?” I’d seen the picture on his laptop before he’d shut it. People running around their POD, a look of terror in their eyes. I reached out and opened the lid of his computer. My arm brushed against his, sending goosebumps racing across my skin. I had to concentrate to remember what I was asking about. The screen was nothing but static. “They cut off another one? Who?” I let go of his computer and started to pull my hand away. He grabbed it, folding it into his own, threading our fingers together. He grazed his lips over my knuckles.
Oh. Wow. Do that again.
My insides swirled out of place and did things I’d only read about in my mother’s racy romance novels.
“Yes. Someone I know from class. You don’t know him. And who says I’m joking?”
“What?” He was difficult to understand on a good day, but that early in the morning, seeing him in nothing more than blue pajama bottoms, his lips moving against my fingers as he talked, it was nearly impossible.
“You told me to stop joking around. I wasn’t joking.”
My heart was beating so hard and fast in my chest, I was sure he could hear it. I pinched the bridge of my nose between my fingers. My fingernails bit into my flesh.
Say something, Eva! Do Something— anything. Just… something. “So…” I started, only to be interrupted by my yawn. Except yawn, idiot! Kiss him… wait… what?
“What’s your theory on the PODs being cut off? Do you think there’s that many people testing positive for the—”
He stood, turned toward me, cupped his hand around the back of my neck and pulled my lips to his. That shut me up. Shock slammed into me, quickly giving way to pleasure, and pleasure to urgency.
I wrapped my arms around his neck, threading my fingers through his silky hair. David’s hand moved from the back of my neck to cup my cheek, his thumb caressing my skin. The other one moved to the small of my back, pulling me tighter against him. He kissed me long, deep. It was sinfully erotic feeling his bare skin under my fingers.
When he tore his lips away, he looked in my eyes. My first instinct was to turn away, but both his hands cupped my cheeks. He bent his head and grazed his lips over mine before looking at me again.
“I’ve wanted to do that since the first day I saw you. And each day I’ve known you it’s been harder and harder not to.”
“Well, what took you so long?”

Praise for the Amazon Bestselling PODs:
"5 Stars! I loved this book. I have been kind of bogged down with dystopias lately, but this was amazing. It was so cool to see life before the 'event', to see Eva wrestle with her choices and then, to watch her change as she lived inside the PODs...Yes, there are zombies. Yes, there's a little romance. But I think, at its heart, PODs is a coming of age story about Eva and how she grows from a girl into a strong, decisive woman during this period of absolute destruction. And Pickett writes it beautifully." ~ Sherry Ficklin, author of "Extracted"

"I was blown away by this debut novel from Michelle Pickett! Rather than feeling like I was reading a book, I actually sometimes felt like I was actually watching the characters' lives progress; it was kind of weird! The emotions that Eva felt were so raw and real, and I think Michelle really captured the emotions that one would be feeling in a post-apocalyptic world...PODs may very well be one of the next big things in YA, so I am very happy to have been one of the ones that was part of the beginning of it all! Congrats Michelle on your YA debut and I am looking forward to more by you!  I gave PODs a well-deserved 5/5 stars!  " ~Phil book reviewer at Stack of Hardbacks

5 glowing, sparkling stars for this one!...I absolutely adored every character Michelle introduces us to. This book isn't just about a romance, or two people fighting some battle. This book allows us to get to know several, amazing, diverse characters who all grab your heart (even a few who have attitude issues). They all held such an important place in the story… Now for the plot. Holy crap!... Michelle did a flippin' fantastic job giving us each piece of this puzzle… I won't go into details about what happens after they are removed from the POD but O-M-G! The action never stops…This book seriously needs to be a movie. I could picture every detail and already see it playing out on screen. PLEASE SOMEONE MAKE THIS HAPPEN!”  ~Jessica of Total Bookaholic

I'm a wife, mother, author, reader, although not always in that order.  I write young adult urban fantasies, science/fiction and paranormal romances and have recently started dabbling in young adult contemporary romance. Reading was one of my earliest passions, writing soon followed. I began writing seriously during college where I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in accounting. Why I chose a career that frowns on creativity remains a mystery.
I’m addicted to Reese’s peanut butter cups and eat way too many while I write, have an abnormal obsession with hoodies and can’t write without one, and I hate to cook, but love to watch cooking shows on television. An unabashed romantic, I love a swoon-worthy ending that will give me butterflies for days.
I wrote my debut young adult novel, PODs, in 2011. PODs, a science/fiction, post-apocalyptic romance, will be released June 4, 2013 through the amazing Spencer Hill Press.  My second young adult title, Milayna, a paranormal romance, will release through Spencer Hill Press beginning in March 2014. Milayna is a standalone, with series potential. It’s meant to be a trilogy. The Infected, a PODs novel, will release November 2014. It is the second, and last, book in the PODs series.
I was born and raised in Flint, Michigan.  I now reside in a small community outside Houston, Texas with my incredibly supportive, not to mention gorgeous, husband, three amazing school-aged children, a 125-pound lap dog, and a snooty cat.
